Samuel Fouchard

Lecturer-researcher

My career path

I came from Nantes in 1997 to enter the ENSCMu (Mulhouse). It was during my final year project internship (fifth year of higher education) in Novartis Crop Protection in Switzerland (now, Syngenta), that I was able to see that my real interest lay in research. Therefore, once I graduated as a chemical engineer in 2000, I did a DEA (equivalent to the first year of a Master’s) where I spent 9 months in a laboratory in a School specialized in microbiology. I followed this by doing research in the ENSCMu, while at the same time teaching. In 2006, I did a post-doc in the School of Biotechnology of Strasbourg (ESBS) before coming back to the ENSCMu at the start of the academic year 2006/2007, but this time as a Lecturer-Researcher.

My job

The job of lecturer-researcher gives me a double objective combining both my passions: research and teaching in organic chemistry and microbiology. Today, as well as these activities, I am in charge of the fourth years at the ENSCMu.

In conclusion

I built up my career little by little and from my work experience and the different opportunities which presented themselves, such as that of becoming a lecturer-researcher. In all, this permitted me to do what I love: teach and establish good relations with the students. In conclusion, it is the route which corresponds best to me.
