Arkema partner in an Fédération Gay-Lussac course in China

Arkema has joined the industrial partners of the "Sino-French program in chemical sciences and engineering" of the FGL (Gay-Lussac Federation)

The "Sino-French Program in Chemical Sciences & Engineering" is an engineering course in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering created jointly by the FGL and the 'East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) of Shanghai, one of the top Chinese universities.

This programme, inaugurated in September 2009, presently welcomes 120 Chinese students. The first year students will enter the FGL schools in September 2012.

A contract was signed between Arkema and the FGL on 21 November 2011, thus associating the company's name and image to this initiative from the FGL, in order to help Chinese chemical engineering students get to know France and its culture, and be capable of bringing to Arkema their scientific and technical competence.

Change of director at the ENSCI Limoges

A new director at the ENSCI Limoges

Since January 1, 2012, the ENSCI (National School of Industrial Ceramics) has a new director. Dr. Cécile Pagnoux, lecturer-researcher, was chosen by the Board of Directors and then officially nominated by the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research. She takes over from Agnès Smith, director since 2006.

Cécile Pagnoux is a professor at the ENSCI and member of the SPCTS laboratory. She was recruited as a lecturer-researcher, where her research is centred on the application of the fundamental scientific principles of colloids in ceramic processes, specifically for the formulation of aqueous oxide suspensions.

In addition, she was responsible for the recruitment of engineering students from 2000 to 2011 and assistant director of studies from 2009 to 2011. She has a Master’s degree and obtained her Doctorate in Material Science (specialised in the chemistry of solids) from the University of Nantes in 1993.

Every year, between 50 and 60 qualified engineers leave the ENSCI (National School of Industrial Ceramics) specialized in ceramics, glass and minerals and will work in a wide number of sectors and technological domains: ceramics, glass, construction and civil engineering, electronics, traditional and renewable energy production, nuclear industry, aerospace, and transport, etc. The ENSCI has played a vital role within the European Centre for Ceramics since September 2010, presided over by Mr. Hubert DE LA VILLEON, and managed by Dr. Agnès SMITH. This year, the school welcomed 200 students over the three academic years and has 2 research laboratories: the GEMH and SPCTS. It is the only school in this speciality in France and number 1 in Europe.

The Sustainable Development week is a vital and popular meeting. Each year, the Minister for Sustainable Development invites companies, associations, public services, local government and schools to promote the principles of sustainable development. This year, it is from the 1^st to 7^th April.

2011: International Year of Chemistry

After the International Year of Physics in 2005, and Astronomy in 2009, the United Nations proclaimed 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry (AIC).

The AIC is part of the UN decade for Education and Sustainable Development for the preservation of natural resources, 2005-2014. The UNESCO and International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) are in charge of organizing this world event to demonstrate the very important role of chemistry in people's professional and domestic lives. The AIC will give an enormous boost to this science on which our lives and future are based.

On the theme « Chemistry for sustainable development: processes, energy and the environment »

The Federation Gay-Lussac - 19 Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Schools are organizing their annual «Research Colloquium» on the theme « Chemistry for sustainable development: processes, energy and the environment » on the 22, 23 and 24 November 2011 at ECPM in Strasbourg.

The programme based on four sessions organized around four conferences presented by industrialists and academics. The conferences, communications and debates are open to engineering students, masters, and PhD students, industrial scientists and academics as well as a larger public.

In addition, in this International year of Chemistry, chemistry discovery workshops will be offered by our schools of science and engineering to high school pupils at the same time as the fourth and final session.

Jean-Marc Le Lann (ENSIACET), the new President of the Federation Gay-Lussac

The two-year mandate of Joël Moreau, Director of the ENSC Montpellier has come to an end. A new President was therefore elected at the head of the Federation Gay-Lussac for a period of 2 years, in the person of Jean-Marc Le Lann, Director of the ENSIACET in Toulouse.

Opening of a Specialized Masters "Management of risk and N.R.B.C.E threats" at the ENSCMu

In November 2010, a new Specialized Masters programme will begin in the "Management of risk and N.R.B.C.E threats" in partnership with the Higher National School of Fire Officers (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Officiers de Sapeurs-Pompiers): the ENSOSP.

This course on the risks and N.R.B.C.E (Nuclear, Radiological, Biological, Chemical and Explosive) threats consists of 6 months of lectures and teaching at the ENSCMu (Higher National School of Chemistry of Mulhouse) and a full-time 4-month internship.

The Specialized Masters is possible either as initial training or as continuing education with an entry requirement of four years of Higher Education i.e. with one of the following: Engineering Diploma, Master’s, DEA (Master’s), DESS (Advanced Graduate Diploma), or the equivalent diploma with a minimum of 3 years professional experience or a lower diploma but with validated professional experience.

The special notation "Defense Confidential" is awarded to this Masters.

The ENSCBP create an international excellence prize

The aim of the Joussot-Dubien Prize is to encourage talented foreign students to follow courses at the ENSCBP for a period of one year. The laureate will be given a prize of 5000 euros.

By the creation of this prize, the ENSCBP confirms its desire for scientific excellence and a global outlook. The candidates must have a diploma equivalent to higher education year 3 or 4 in the domain of Chemistry-Physics or Food science.

From the start of the year, in September 2010, the laureate will begin one of the engineering courses of the School.

ABOUT JACQUES JOUSSOT-DUBIEN
The Joussot-Dubien prize gives homage to Professor Jacques Joussot-Dubien (1928-2009), Director of the ENSCPB from 1982 to 1986. His project for the school was crucial for its future, i.e. to renew the teaching by integrating physics with the chemistry courses and giving importance to research in the School. He was a well-known scientist in the domain of photochemistry, and having done his studies in the United States, he actively developed the international relations of the School.
