To be admitted: what to do

With a Baccalaureate + 2 years: admission to the first year of an engineering cycle (HE year 3)

For the students from Classes Préparatoires to the Grandes Ecoles (CPGE)

After your 2 years in the classes préparatoires, you have access to the majority of French engineering schools in chemistry or chemical engineering, by passing different competitive entry tests open to the CPGE.

Competitive entry via one or more of the following:

  • Concours Communs Polytechniques
  • PCBIO
  • X-ESPCI
  • Concours centrale Supelec
  • Concours FESIC Prepa
  • Concours E3A

Competitive entry via one or more of the above depending on the school (see the following table) :

For students with a DUT

Students who have obtained a DUT (University Diploma of Technology) from a University Institute of Technology (IUT), can present their candidature to a school of chemistry, via “Admission Sur Titre” (AST) where this admission is based on the student’s dossier, and possibly an interview on the candidates motivation (see the school site). The language level is also evaluated.

For those who have followed a university course L2 or L3 (HE year 2 or 3)

If you have followed a higher education course at university equivalent to an HND (L2 = HE 2) or a BSc (L3 = HE 3) in « Science and Technology », you can apply for entrance to engineering schools, in the same way as any student with a DUT, by Admission Sur Titre: based on the student’s dossier, an interview on the candidates motivation, and language level.

Another possibility for entering an engineering school is offered by a certain number of schools in the FGL*: called the "Concours national DEUG" (DEUG = university diploma after two years of full-time higher education courses). This type of entry consists of written and oral admission exams.

You can find the relative information about this competitive entry on the site of the Groupe Concours Polytechniques

* These schools in the FGL offer the « Concours DEUG » : ECPM (Strasbourg), ENSCCF (Clermont-Ferrand), ENSCI (Limoges), ENSCL (Lille), ENSCM (Montpellier), ENSCMu (Mulhouse), ENSCP (Paris), ENSCBP (Bordeaux), ENSCR (Rennes), ENSGTI (Pau), ENSIACET (Toulouse), ENSICAEN (Caen)

For students with a BTS (equivalent to an HND - HE2)

If you have the equivalent of an HND (HE2) in chemistry, you can apply for entry to certain schools (necessary to contact the establishments directly for information) by Admission Sur Titre: based on the student’s dossier, an interview on the candidates motivation, and their language level.

Another possibility offered for you is after one year in classes préparatoires ATS :

  • Lycée de l’Escaut in Valencienne,
  • Lycée La Martinière Diderot in Lyon,
  • Lycée Pierre-Gilles de Gennes - ENCPB in Paris.

After this year, you may be able to enter one of the 19 schools of the FGL without any exams, in function to your ranking on leaving the establishment and on continuous assessment.
